GCOA was started in 2009 by Sarah and Davis Hock, Christy and Jon-Ryan Schlobohm, and Brittany and Ian Bentley following the success of the Orphan Sunday event they hosted at Community Presbyterian Church in Ventura in collaboration with Reality Ventura. GCOA seeks to mobilize the community for the cause of the orphan by providing information and relational support relevant to the issue of orphan care. In general, we purpose to encourage and empower our members to utilize the resources that God has given them to serve orphaned children both locally and globally through prayer, sponsorship, missions, adoption and even shopping!
More specifically, GCOA provides support for adoptive (and pre-adoptive) families who are currently considering adoption, in process on adoptions and/or raising adopted children. GCOA also hopes to reach out to non-Christians in the community who are interested in adoption and orphan care. We desire to serve them on their journey and show them God's heart for the orphan.
The GCOA family includes individuals from all walks of life who desire to respond to God's calling to minister to the needs of orphans. The orphans of the world need all of us - college students, young parents, single working professionals, retirees - to come together to raise our collective voices for them. We hope you'll join us!
