This April, GCOA will be launching its first Both Hands Project fundraiser to help three local families from area churches - Jesse and Amy Giglio, Stephen and Sheila Steen, and RJ and Anna Hosking - bring their children home forever from Ethiopia. These families have responded to God's call to care for orphans and they need our support as they take a huge step of faith to pursue international adoption. As several of these families are adopting two children, a total of FIVE orphaned children will find families in loving Christian homes right here in our community as a result of these adoptions.
The Both Hands Project brings together a team of individuals and families who will volunteer their time for one weekend to raise money to help support local adoptions by providing much-needed home improvements for a local widow in the community. (Think of it like a charity golf outing; but instead of golfing to raise money, we are going to serve a widow in need!) The team will send out support letters asking their friends and families to support the work they will be doing on the building project for the widow in need. The funds raised will then benefit the Giglios', Steens' and Hoskings' adoptions. Hence, "Both Hands" as we reach out together to serve both the widow and the orphan as James 1:27 calls us to do. If you (or your youth group, home group, school group, etc.) would like to be a part of the Both Hands team, we need you! We are committed to helping these amazing families raise the significant funds required to bring their children home and we are trusting God to be faithful. We hope you'll join us! May Event for National Foster Care Month We are excited to be partnering with local foster youth advocate Jojo Murdock for National Foster Care Month this May. We will be hosting a special event that will feature testimonials and dramatic performances from local foster youth. The goal of the event is to help raise awareness about these local teens who are often hidden in plain sight here in our community. If you have a heart for foster youth and would like to help with planning and implementing this great event, please contact info@weheartorphans.org. |
